Project Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Engage in a meaningful community engagement opportunity as a Classroom Assistant for FIRST LEGO League. Assistants support instructors and mentors in creating a positive, organized, and engaging learning environment for students participating in FIRST LEGO League. You will serve as near-peer mentors, helping younger students develop skills in robotics, coding, problem-solving, teamwork, and competition preparation.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer This role is ideal for individuals passionate about promoting diversity in technology, fostering youth development, and supporting students' learning journeys. Through your involvement, you'll gain experience in mentoring, teamwork, and classroom facilitation while making a meaningful impact on the next generation of tech innovators.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Assist students with building, designing, and programming LEGO robots. Support teams as they complete robot missions, research projects, and other challenges. Encourage teamwork, communication, creativity, and problem-solving. Help troubleshoot robot designs, programming issues, and mechanical challenges. Assist the instructor with setting up robotics equipment, computers, and classroom materials. Demonstrate positive leadership, patience, and good sportsmanship. Serve as a positive role model and mentor for younger students. Assist with practice sessions, mock competitions, and preparation for tournaments or showcases. Encourage students to take ownership of their work rather than completing tasks for them.

Share in the excitement and energy as students discover their potential through coding. Building confidence in both STEM skills and leadership abilities. Identifying problems with robots, programs, or equipment and working toward solutions.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Time Commitment: 30 hours Starts September 12th and meets: Mondays 5:30 - 7:30pm Saturdays 10:00am - 12:00pm
