Project Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer This project involves supporting the planning and execution of the HMoob Heritage Month Gala, including event setup, coordination during the event, and tear-down. Volunteers assist with preparing the venue, organizing materials, supporting program activities, and ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for all attendees. The community need addressed is creating a space that celebrates and uplifts Hmong culture, builds community connection, and provides opportunities for cultural expression and engagement. Events like the HMoob Heritage Month Gala help strengthen community pride, increase visibility, and bring together individuals and families in a meaningful and inclusive environment.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Our mission is to amplify the voices of Hmong community in the greater Chippewa Valley through civic engagement, strategic community organizing, impactful issue advocacy, and intentional leadership development. Power Up Eau Claire envisions a vibrant community led by knowledgeable, empowered, and educated individuals who leverage their diverse backgrounds and experiences to drive progressive change, nurturing social, economic, and political well-being for our families and future generations.

Answer Organization Skills – Planning timelines, coordinating tasks, and managing details Communication Skills – Working with team members, vendors, and participants Teamwork & Collaboration – Coordinating with volunteers and staff Time Management – Staying on schedule and meeting deadlines Problem-Solving – Handling last-minute changes or challenges during the event Attention to Detail – Ensuring everything is set up correctly and runs smoothly Flexibility & Adaptability – Adjusting to changing needs during setup and event day Physical Skills – Assisting with setup, moving materials, and tear-down

What are the learning objectives for this project

Answer Understand Event Planning Basics Learn how to plan, organize, and execute a community event from setup to tear-down. Develop Communication Skills Practice working with team members, vendors, and community participants. Build Organizational & Time Management Skills Learn how to manage tasks, timelines, and responsibilities effectively. Strengthen Problem-Solving Skills Gain experience handling unexpected challenges during event setup and execution. Enhance Teamwork & Leadership Collaborate with others and take initiative in group settings. Improve Attention to Detail Ensure event setup, materials, and activities are accurate and well-prepared. Increase Cultural Awareness & Community Engagement Gain a deeper understanding of Hmong culture and the importance of community-centered events.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer We have HMoob Heritage Month meeting every Tuesdays from 6-8pm until April 25. Set up will be Friday, April 24th from 10am until done - anytime you can come would be great. April 25 we will be there from 10 am until midnight - anytime you can come would be great, tear down will be after midnight. April 26 upload at Power Up Office from 10 am until noon.
