Project Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Our Adult Specialized Recreation Program, Par-te-Rec, meets on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm at the Hobbs Ice Arena. Each session features a planned activity such as coloring, bingo, karaoke, board games, music trivia, and more. Volunteers are encouraged to actively engage with participants by assisting with activities, fostering conversation, and providing a supportive and friendly presence.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer To provide exceptional park, recreation, forestry, cemetery, and facility services that will engage the community and enrich our citizens and visitors.

What skills are required for this project?

Answer Strong communication skills – being open to conversation and able to engage meaningfully with participants. Patience and empathy – understanding that participants may have diverse backgrounds, needs, or learning styles. Active engagement – willingness to participate fully, initiate interactions, and contribute positively to the program environment. Interpersonal skills – the ability to build rapport, listen attentively, and respond respectfully. Reliability and professionalism – showing up consistently and maintaining a supportive attitude.

What are the learning objectives for this project

Answer The learning objectives are to help students gain a deeper understanding of our diverse population of individuals and appreciate how truly wonderful they are. Students will learn how to communicate effectively with a variety of people, broaden their ability to engage with different populations, and discover the unique strengths, abilities, and potential each participant brings.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Wednesday Evenings, 5:45pm-8:15p, January 28 - April 22 (Required for April 22). No Par-te-Rec on April 1 Due to Spring Break. Student will need to attend 8 sessions of Par-te-Rec and Attend Prom (April 22)
