Project Proposal Description

Briefly describe the project and the community need to be addressed.

Answer Care for a herd of over 20 horses in a therapeutic ranch setting. Uphold the professional standards of our equine facility while contributing to a positive, team-oriented environment. Weekly tasks as assigned by the Barn Manager: Stall Cleaning, Aisleway Cleaning, Turnout/Bring In, Watering, Hay replenishing, etc.

What is the mission of the agency or organization?

Answer Trinity Equestrian Center changes lives through connection; transforming struggles into strengths for youth and survivors of trauma in a nontraditional therapeutic ranch setting. Our highly credentialed team is comprised of licensed therapists, equine-assisted psychotherapists, equine specialists, therapeutic riding instructors, counselors, and a herd of over 20 horses who we regard as “certified good boys and girls.”

What skills are required for this project?

Answer + Physically active for 2.5 - 3 hours each shift. + Comfortable around horses • Lift 50lbs • Pass a background check and be at least 18 years of age • Contribute to a healthy and safe therapeutic environment • Be a reliable, consistent contributor • Follow directions, be flexible and responsive to changes in schedules, be patient, kind, and caring

What are the learning objectives for this project

Answer • Learn individual roles and responsibilities within the team. • Practice healthy boundaries, self-awareness, and situational awareness. • Learn about horse care, horse handling, nutritional needs, and their environmental needs. + Consistent completion of barn chores fosters discipline, responsibility, and the ability to plan ahead.

5.

What are the availability requirements for the student?

Answer Students must be available weekly, until required hours are met. Choose at least one shift per week, any day of the week (Mon-Sun). Choose a morning (7-9:30am) or evening (4-6:30pm) shift. Attend orientation before participating.

Additional information (not required).

Answer No chore experience required, but helpful. You must be comfortable with horses, and will be trained to bring them in and out of stalls and pastures. This is a physical job and an essential one, especially during inclement weather.
